Driver Recognition Programme

Driver Recognition Programme

South East Asia:

After two highly successful programmes in East Africa, we are pleased to announce that with the support of PAE and RMA, Fleet Forum will be the Driver Recognition Programme to South East Asia. The programme will start in August 2017 and will come to a closure with the Driving Champions Final taking place in May 2018 in Bangkok.

RMA and PAE | Title Sponsor

Over the past 60 years PAE supported complex and critical missions by providing global logistics and stability operations in some of the most challenging environments in the world. Safe road travel is a cornerstone of PAE’s support, and they have undertaken the task of training thousands of drivers in various countries over the past six decades, with the dual objective of expanding their own talented workforce and imparting professional skills to the communities where they operate.

Road Safety in Organisations: Driving Change Through Effective Interventions

In 2022, Fleet Forum, with funding from the UPS Foundation and in partnership with Cranfield University, undertook a research project titled ‘Impact of Road Traffic Crashes’. This research explored the far-reaching effects of road traffic crashes on aid and development organisations while identifying the most effective road safety interventions to ensure a high return on investment.

Why Road Safety Matters

For aid and development organisations, road traffic crashes pose significant risks —not just to staff safety but also to an organisation’s reputation and its ability to deliver humanitarian aid effectively. Operating in high-risk environments with limited infrastructure, humanitarian workers face unique challenges that can lead to road safety incidents.

Despite these risks, the long-term impact of crashes remains poorly understood, with incidents often handled individually and little systemic data collected for analysis. Strengthening road safety practices can help organisations reduce risks, improve trust within communities, and build a culture of safety.

Key Research Phases

In 2022, Cranfield University’s research team conducted a two-phase study to understand and improve road safety practices:

  • Phase 1: A detailed review of road safety literature was carried out, focusing on Work-Related Road Safety (WRRS) interventions proven to reduce incidents.

  • Phase 2: This phase examined how aid and development organisations currently manage road safety, with a particular focus on leadership practices, policies, and systems.

The research included:

  • A comprehensive review of evidence spanning from 2011 to 2022.

  • Interviews and focus groups with representatives from 13 aid and development organisations.

Findings and Recommendations

The reports from this research offer critical insights into how organisations can develop road safety policies, embed leadership-driven safety cultures, and improve monitoring systems to mitigate risks effectively. By addressing these challenges, aid organisations can enhance operational efficiency and protect their teams.
